GICs (Guaranteed Investment Certificates) pay interest for a specific term at a guaranteed rate of interest. GICs can be purchased with maturities of up to 5 years.

The majority of Canadians choose their local bank when purchasing a GIC. You should be aware that there are many other financial institution in Canada that will compete for your deposits. In order to shop for the best rates you need a broker. 

Consumers that use a broker consistently get higher rates than those that deal with their bank directly. Stone-Hedge Financial Group Inc. will shop the market and compare rates with our contracted financial institutions and insurance companies that offer competitive rates for your deposits. 

Coverage is limited to $100,000 per institution. If you have more than $100,000 in any one institution you should consider spreading your deposits with several institutions and have all your deposits fully insured.

GICs are insured by CDIC up to certain limits. GICs are sold by banks and trust companies for more information go to www.cdic.ca

GICs sold by credit unions are insured provincially up to certain limits for more information go to www.dico.com  for Ontario deposit insurance. 

GIAs with insurance companies are sold by licensed insurance brokers and are insured by Assuris up to certain limits for more information go to www.assuris.ca
